It’s never too late to find your creative niche. That was the message from University of Auckland neuroscientist and Creative Thinking Project board member Cathy Stinear in a panel discussion at the Auckland Art Gallery which brought together leading figures in science, business and art.
“Your brain changes in response to use and experience,” she said. “What that means is that at any point in your life you can decide to learn a new skill, or a new language, or about art or about history or politics.” She also urged people to find their creative niche, whether through their work or elsewhere. “You need to find it somewhere in your life to be fulfilled as a human being.”
The panel discussion late last year was hosted by Radio New Zealand’s Kim Hill and also featured actor and playwright Miranda Harcourt, the Ecostore’s Malcolm Rand, and curator Natasha Conland. It was part of the Auckland Art Gallery’s flagship summer exhibition, Freedom Farmers: New Zealand artists growing ideas.
