‘I often think about the fact that very likely people who have a creative capacity never get to realize it because they weren’t born into the right environment. Take the example of Leonardo, who luckily got bored in the Renaissance, and had access to patrons who would pay for his materials, pay him for his work, and in fact even give him access to bodies that could be dissected, so that he could understand anatomy. If he had been in another environment, say 200 years earlier, we would never have had any of those marvellous productions of his creative genius.’
